Potential shortage of beds at Weymouth Olympics could be a boom for residents!

We visited Weymouth recently and were pleasantly surprised.  Not sure why we were surprised – we had no idea what to expect to be honest.

We were there to try and understand how people of the area are feeling about the forthcoming Olympic sailing events being held in Weymouth and Portland this summer and to see what plans are under way for the 1000's of expected visitors to the area.

A bit of research about Dorset's involvement with the events has revealed the following:

  • 46,000 tickets have been sold for the Olympic sailing events in Weymouth and Portland
  • 4,600 people are expected to take their viewing places at Nothe Green every day during the Games
  • A further 4,600 members of the press will visit the area during the Olympic sailing events
  • 25,000 spectators are expected to crowd onto the beach to watch the sailing on big screens
  • 800 volunteers will be helping out
  • A total of around 60,000 visitors will be in the Weymouth and Portland area between 9 July 2012, when officials and athletes start to arrive, and 9 September when the Paralympics comes to a close.

This unique opportunity will probably only be here once in your lifetime.  Why not make the most of it and earn a little extra by renting out your home, spare room, driveway, garden, boat or caravan?
