Modern information and communication technologies play a fundamental role in the activities of an organisation like The Borrowers Ltd.  Our principal activity is that of advertising the belongings of our customers for rental purposes and allowing private communication between lenders and borrowers via our Website - www.theborrowers.co.uk. 

Our Privacy Policy covers The Borrowers Ltd and its Website and is compliant with the regulations of The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).   

1.  You can access the Website and browse the site without disclosing your personal data.  

2.  The Website enables you to communicate with other website registrants and/or to post information about your property or belongings. 

3.  We do not automatically log personal data.   We collect only the personal data that you may volunteer whilst using our services.

4.  Visitors to www.theborrowers.co.uk may view and print data relating to any advert you may have listed on the site.  This will include your User Name and the general location of the item advertised by means of the first part of your postcode.  It will not include your name, full address (unless you choose to pinpoint it on the map provided), email address and telephone number.  Once a borrower has contacted you via the Website it is for you to decide whether to divulge that information to your borrower via the messaging service provided on the site.

5.  We will only use your name, address, email address and phone number for technical and customer administration.  We may use your name, address, email address, phone number and the adverts listed for marketing and market research purposes.

6.  We do not collect or use personal data for any other purpose and will not sell your details to third parties.

7. We ensure that your personal data is not disclosed to any other organisations unless required by law or other regulation.

8.  We will take reasonable steps to create an accurate record of any personal data you submit through the Website.  However, we do not assume responsibility for confirming the ongoing accuracy of your personal data.  If you advise us that it is no longer accurate, we will, so far as practicable, make the necessary corrections.

9.  We do not store your credit card details.

10.  We do not use cookies on our Website.

11.  We do collect statistical data relating to the use of the Website.  Every time you connect to our Website we store a log of your visit which shows the unique number your machine uses when it is connected to the internet (IP address).  This tells us what you looked at; whether the page request was successful or not and which browser you used to view the pages.  The use of this data is primarily for statistical purposes and helps us to understand which areas of the site are of particular interest and also which pages are not being requested.  It also tells us how many people are visiting the Website in total.

12.  Registrants to the Website must be 18 or over.  However we do not collect birth-date information and cannot therefore verify that all registrants are over 18.  We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.  

13.   We check live adverts on a regular basis for unsuitable, criminal or defamatory material and we reserve the right to remove adverts which contain such material.  We may, if it is deemed necessary, report such incidents to the regulatory bodies such as the police.

14.  We may, from time to time, require other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf.  This may include credit/debit card validation and authorisation agencies, web development and website hosting companies and data analysis firms.  Such third parties may be provided with access to your personal data if it is needed to perform their functions.  It will not be used for any other purpose and all our employees and data processors who have access to and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of our customers’ personal data.

15.  If you tick the box, at the point of registration, to opt in to receive news and updates, we may write to you from time to time.  Once ticked, we provide you with the means to opt out at any time by either logging into your account on the Website and changing the option in My Personal Details, or by sending an email to unsubscribe@theborrowers.co.uk.  

16.  If you have not ticked the box to receive news and updates we may write to you with any important issues which may arise relating to the Website.

17.  You can ask us at any time whether we are keeping personal data about you by.  This request must be made in writing, with an authorising signature, to:  The Data Controller, The Borrowers Ltd, Riverside House, Riverside Business Park, Wylds Road, Bridgwater, Somerset TA6 4BH.  We will provide you, without charge, a readable copy of the personal data which we keep about you, within ten working days of receipt of the request.  We may require proof of your identity and we reserve the right to refuse to provide our visitors with a copy of their personal data, but will give reasons for our refusal.  You can, however, challenge our decision to refuse to provide you with a copy of your personal data.  

You may challenge the data that we hold about you and, where appropriate, you may have the data erased or amended. 

18.  We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time and may make changes at any time without notifying you.  If we decide to change our Privacy Policy, we will post the revised policy here and we suggest that you periodically consult this Privacy Policy.
